Making an idol takes 10 to 12 days.

In this community, idols have been created for the past 100 years

Clay idols have been produced in this Balliapur block hamlet for the past 100 years. These god statues are created for the festivals of Maa Mansa, Kali, and Durga.


Multiple districts in Bihar and UP are in demand for them. Orders have begun to arrive from both states. During the holiday season, this community sends over a thousand idols to various areas in Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.


The most popular idols built in Rakhitpur village are those of Maa Durga, Ganesh, Kartik, Hanuman, Lakshmi, Bhainsasur, and lion. The process of creating idols is done all year long. Idols are still created in the shade during the rainy season. Along with the idols, this village's sculptors are in high demand. They travel to create idols at the request of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.


Five to seven idols are created by a sculptor each month

Each sculptor in the community produces five to seven idols every month, according to Ganesh Sutradhar, who has been creating idols for a long time. A god idol costs between 15,000 and 17,000 rupees to create. It costs between 40,000 and 50,000 rupees to buy it in the market.


An idol takes 10 to 12 days to construct. The process of giving them a finishing touch is all that remains for the sculptors to perform while they simultaneously prepare the moulds of numerous idols. Plaster of Paris is employed in some specific idols made of the majority of the clay.
