For domestic and international matches, BCCI issues media rights tenders

Disney Star paid Rs 6,138 crore for the five-year cycle (2018–23) to maintain the BCCI media rights in 2018.

According to a report by the newspaper The Economic Times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the tender for media rights for international and local matches played in the nation.  Up to August 25 you may purchase the tender paperwork.

Although industry insiders think Rs 10,000 crore is a more reasonable estimate, BCCI projects a value of Rs 12,000 crore.

In 2018, Disney Star paid Rs 6,138 crore to maintain the BCCI media rights for the five-year period (2018–2023). Disney Star, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), and Reliance Jio competed for media rights in 2018. This time, Viacom18, owned by Reliance Industries, Sony, and Disney Star will compete.

Experts told ET that due to the difficulties the media sector is experiencing, the media rights procedure is becoming more complicated. The delay in the Sony-Zee merger and Walt Disney's selling of its Indian operations might cause problems for the plan to auction media rights for India's international games.

In order to make up for losing out on the ICC rights, Viacom18 is considered as emerging as a major competitor. Disney Star will also be aiming to play

According to Rajesh Sethi, who formerly oversaw Ten Sports and NBA India, the BCCI is not currently in the greatest of situations given that two significant broadcasters are merging and Disney is looking for a strategic buyer for its India business.

No media firm can ignore cricket since it has strategic importance for both the TV and internet industries, he continued.

The BCCI is reportedly recruiting Amazon and Google to submit bids for digital rights, according to a Bloomberg article. Industry sources, however, claim that there is little chance that the two digital behemoths will compete for the rights to the India cricket series.
