 Explosion At A Petrol Station In Russia Leaves 12 Dead and More Than 60 Hurt


The Russian daily Izvestia cited a witness on Telegram as saying that the fire originated in a parking lot and then spread to the gas station.


Moscow: An explosion and fire at a petrol station in the Russian Caucasus region of Dagestan resulted in at least 12 fatalities and scores of injuries on Monday, according to the emergency situations ministry.




The ministry said on Telegram that "more than 60 people were hurt in the fire in Makhachkala, and 12 of them died." The capital of Dagestan is Makhachkala, which is situated on the Caspian Sea.


The Russian daily Izvestia cited a witness on Telegram as saying that the fire originated in a parking lot and then spread to the gas station. The unidentified witness claimed, "After the explosion, everything fell on our heads, and we could no longer see anything."


The Ria Novosti news agency shared a video on Telegram that showed a structure engulfed in flames before an enormous explosion. 260 firemen were dispatched to the scene, and the ministry estimates that the fire consumed an area of around 600 square metres (6,450 square feet).
