The National Medical Council's (NMC) regulation regarding generic medications has been resisted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The NMC's directive to prescribe solely generic medications is a cause for worry, according to the IMA. The safety and care of the patients would be directly impacted by this. The NMC rule is unfair to physicians who refuse to compromise in any way with their patients.

Ranchi: The National Medical Council's (NMC) directive has been resisted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The NMC's directive to prescribe solely generic medications, according to the Indian Medical Association, is cause for alarm.

NMC's directive to prescribe only generic medications to patients is a subject of considerable worry for us, according to IMA National President Dr. Sharad Kumar Agarwal, since it directly affects patient care and safety. It is urgent since NMC acted improperly in regards to the generic medicine problem.

Dr. Aggarwal made fun of NMC

Dr. Sharad Kumar Agarwal feels that this announcement is unfair to medical professionals who consistently put the needs of their patients first. The present promotion of generic medications by NMC, according to the IMA, "appears to be like running trains without tracks," in a mocking manner.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Singh, State Secretary of the IMA, stated that it is up to the government to decide whether branded firms should manufacture generic medications. To ensure that patients receive better care, its accountability must be fixed.

Government should direct manufacturers to produce drugs without brand names: IMA

All pharmaceutical firms should be ordered to produce all non-brand name medications if the government and NMC want all physicians in the nation to solely prescribe generic medications. The brand name won't need to be written down after that.

Still, doctors continue to recommend branded medications

Despite NMC's directives, government physicians in this country still refuse to give generic medications. In community health centres like RIMS, Sadar Hospital, and others, only branded medications are prescribed.

On the other hand, doctors are constantly urged to only prescribe generic medications, yet only branded medications are being administered to patients, according to information provided to hospital management.
