According to a rumour, Boeing is the front-runner to win IndiGo's contract for 25 wide-body aircraft

According to a Reuters report, IndiGo is in negotiations to purchase twin-aisle aircraft from the Boeing 787 family.

With an order from the airline for about 25 wide-body aircraft, Boeing has emerged as the obvious favourite of IndiGo. The change occurs as the largest airline in India continues to expand internationally by adding new locations.

IndiGo is in negotiations with Boeing to purchase its twin-aisle 787 series of aircraft, competing against Airbus' A330neo aircraft, according to a Reuters report. According to the article, the decision is not yet final, and Airbus, Boeing, and IndiGo have all declined to comment on the situation.

The impact of IndiGo on Indian aviation

The most recent discussions take place a few weeks after IndiGo overtook Air India's deal for 470 aircraft from Boeing by placing an order for 500 narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft from the French aerospace manufacturer.

Domestic airlines are attempting to keep up with the speed of the world's fastest-growing aviation sector in India's rapidly expanding aviation environment. As a result of the coronavirus epidemic, demand for air travel has increased dramatically, shattering previous industry records. Even as aircraft manufacturers struggle to reach their production goals, this rise is taking place.

This movement is being led by IndiGo, which controls a commanding 58% of the home market in India. The airline is simultaneously implementing a bold strategy to increase its operational capacity by the end of the decade. IndiGo is actively expanding its network as part of its development strategy, especially in international markets.

New flight routes by IndiGo have just begun to several locations in Africa, West Asia, and Southeast Asia. Due to its codeshare agreements with seven partner airlines, including well-known companies like Turkish Airlines and KLM, its growth also includes Europe.

It should be emphasised that until now, IndiGo has been the exclusive purchaser of Airbus narrow-body aircraft, so a deal for wide-body aircraft would represent a change in course.
