Sanjeev Singh, a former Jharia MLA running on the BJP platform, has been imprisoned since 2017 in connection with the murder of former deputy mayor Neeraj Singh. On July 11, 2023, he fell in the detention ward and suffered significant injuries. The former MLA has been using oxygen since July 11, when the prison authorities had him taken to the SNMMCH hospital for treatment.

Ragini Singh, a former MLA's wife and current BJP politician, has repeatedly asked the court to transfer her to a private hospital for better care, but no such order has been given. The former MLA, in the meantime, has petitioned the court on Tuesday, requesting euthanasia and making an appeal to donate his organs to the poor following his passing. According to former MLA Mohammad Javed, Sanjeev Singh has a number of illnesses that the government hospital is unable to treat. The court and the jail administration have been repeatedly asked to transport him to a private hospital.

Sanjeev Singh has asked the court for euthanasia today since, according to his attorney, the state government is fighting the request. BJP politician and former MLA's wife claimed that her husband should be put to death if he is not granted life. My hubby will not be going for RIMS therapy. Ragini has asked that Sanjeev receive treatment at a private facility and claims that a government hospital is unable to provide better security and medical amenities.

Neeraj Singh, a former deputy mayor and congressman, as well as his personal assistant Ashok Yadav, personal bodyguard Munna Tiwari, and driver Gholtu were fatally shot on March 21, 2017, close to Dhanbad's Steel Gate. Aman Singh, the assailant, and his friends committed this slaughter. Sanjeev Singh, a former MLA, is a defendant in this case and has been detained since 2017 in connection with this murder case.
