The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and the ONGC management met on Friday in Mumbai to discuss concerns regarding the reservation of Scheduled Caste personnel at various levels, open positions that have not yet been filled, and the operation of the welfare and grievance redressal mechanisms.




The meeting was held with top ONGC executives, led by its chairman and CEO Arun Kumar Singh, according to a statement from the NCSC delegation, which was led by its Chairman Vijay Sampla.


Sampla requested that the ONGC management look into the concerns highlighted in the memorandum by the SC personnel and submit a report to the commission detailing the actions taken.


Sampla also gave the ONGC management the memorandum of the SC employees' organisation.


Sampla asked the ONGC management to make sure that jobs are given to subjects of the deceased SC/ST employees as well as to implement the dominate of reservation in all recruitments of the Oil and Natural Gas group of companies in order to protect the freedoms enjoyed by the Scheduled Caste employees and to ensure their safety within the organisation.


The NCSC team met with the All India ONGC scheduled tribes and castes Employees' Rights Association prior to Sampla's meeting with the upper management to record their demands and concerns.


The association also discussed a reduction of 5% of the educational requirements for SC/ST candidates applying for Group-A positions, following the example of other central public sector organisations like HPCL, BPCL, Coal India, etc.


Additionally, the association asked Sampla to request from ONGC management strict adherence to the specified employment proportion for SC/STs in all ONGC contracts as well as enforcement of the norm of reservation for SC/STs in corporate-level promotions.


In place of GATE, campus hiring, or direct hiring at any level, ONGC must fill all Group-A positions through open recruitment, according to the statement.


The group added demanded Sampla that SC/ST workers be nominated to serve on the CSR fund screening committee at all work centres.
