 IIT Madras: For the first time, an IIT college campus has been launched outside of India. Indian students can now apply and learn more about the school


IIT Madras: The IIT College campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania, opened its doors for the first time outside of India. Madras Institute of the Ministry of Education and Professional Training (MoVT) of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, have all signed an MoU in support of this.


IIT Madras: In Zanzibar, Tanzania, an IIT institution will have a campus for the first time outside of India. In order to establish an IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was just agreed between the Ministries of Education (MoE), the Government of India, IIT Madras, and the Ministry of Education and Professional Training (MoVT). The President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussain Ali Mwini, and the secretary of foreign affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, participated in this on July 5, 2023. The long-standing relationship between Tanzania and India is reflected on this campus. In October, the programme will begin on this campus. The MoU was signed on behalf of the MoE, Government of India by Binaya Srikanth Pradhan, the Ambassador of India to Tanzania, Dean (Global Engagement), IIT Madras, Prof. Raghunathan Rengaswamy, and Mr. Khalid Masood Wazir, Acting Principal Secretary, MoEVT Zanzibar. Focusing on internationalisation, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 suggests that "high achieving Indian universities will be encouraged to establish educational sites in other countries."


The exchange of legal papers recognising Tanzania and India's strategic collaboration has formalised their connection as an educational alliance. outlines, among other things, the plans for the construction of the IIT Madras campus that is slated to be located in Zanzibar, Tanzania. In October 2023, the programme will begin on this campus. Through this special collaboration, IIT Madras' top-tier educational know-how will reach a prominent location in Africa and meet the present requirements of the area.


Indian students are welcome to attend this institution

The academic plan, curriculum, student selection, and academic specifics will be handled by IIT Madras, and the federal government of Zanzibar-Tanzania would cover the capital and operating costs. A degree from IIT Madars will be given to the students enrolling on this campus. Students from Africa and other continents are anticipated to enrol in the leading edge multidisciplinary degrees. Students from India may also apply for these programmes.


Along with improving India's reputation abroad and its diplomatic ties, the opening of the IIT campus would also broaden IIT Madras' worldwide reach. It is also anticipated that the variety of the teachers and students from the international campus would further improve the standard of instruction and research at IIT Madras. It will serve as a showcase for the aspirational nature of Indian higher education and innovation throughout the world.
