 7 states will receive new judges; the SC collegium suggests names; Gujarat will have a female chief justice


Supreme Court Collegium: The Collegium has suggested Justice Ashish J. Desai, a Gujarat High Court judge, to be the highest court judge of the Kerala High Court. For the Supreme Court's Chief Justice of the Manipur Superior Court, the collegium has suggested Justice Siddharth Mridul, a judge on the Delhi High Court.


In Delhi. On Wednesday, the highest court in the land Collegium, presided over by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, proposed appointing of Chief Justices of the High Courts of Kerala, Gujarat, Bombay, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice Sanjay K. Justice Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, two of the three members of the collegium, have suggested Justice Sunita Agrawal be named Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.


She will be the sole female Chief Justice of a High Court if the Centre grants its approval, as there is no female representation in the position at the moment. The collegium has suggested that Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, a judge on the Allahabad High Court, be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court during the meeting on Wednesday.


The collegium also suggested that Justice Alok Aradhe, a judge of the Madhya Pradesh-based Karnataka High Court, be appointed as Chief Justice on the Telangana High Court. The Bombay High Court judge General Dhiraj Singh Thakur has been recommended for the position of Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court by the Collegium [original High Court: J&K and Ladakh].


The collegium has suggested Justice Siddharth Mridul, a judge on the Delhi High Court, to be the chief justice of the Manipur High Court. Additionally, the Supreme Court Collegium suggested that Justice Subhasis Talapatra of the Odisha High Court (formerly the Tripura High Court) be appointed as the court's chief justice. Similar to this, the Collegium has suggested Justice Ashish J. Desai, a judge on the Gujarat High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.


The Collegium advises these judges be appointed as Supreme Court justices of various High Courts after seeing that they are qualified and appropriate in all regards. On November 21, 2011, Justice Sunita Agrawal was appointed to the Allahabad High Court, where she now serves as the senior-most judge. She has over 11 years of expertise administering justice at the biggest High Court in the nation and has been working there since receiving her promotion.
