Violence in Manipur: Over the past one and a half months, a number of episodes of mob violence have occurred. In Kwakta township of Bishupur and Kangwai township of Churachandpur, 400–500 rounds of ammunition were discharged.

Imphal. In Manipur, which has been beset by violence for more than a month and a half, there have been new instances of mob violence on Friday. Following the arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's state visit, 400 to 500 rounds of ammunition from automated guns were fired at Kwakata, Bishupur, and Kangwai, Churachandpur, in the most recent act of violence. To stop rioters from gathering in Imphal, the Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Rapid Action Force marched together until midnight. The security forces stopped the mob's attempt to steal guns from a police station in West Imphal.

In Manipur, it is Rebellion Unity Day today, and a curfew is in effect. Additionally, internet services have completely stopped. In response to the most recent acts of violence, the opposition has reportedly requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a peace appeal and call a conference of all parties on the ethnic violence in Manipur before going on his international tour on June 20. In the most recent violent occurrences in Manipur, BJP officials' homes have been targeted. A mob attempted to set MLA Biswajit's home on fire on Friday, one day after Union Minister RK Singh's home was burned down.

In Imphal, the crowd also attacked BJP leader Sharda Devi's residence close to Porampet. The security officers dispersed the throng on both instances. On June 18, Manipur commemorates Rebellion Unity Day. As a result, there may be an increase in violence. Importantly, Vidroh Ekta Diwas is observed annually as a mark of respect for the 18 individuals who died in the June 18 movement in 2001. The Congress urged PM Modi to call for calm on Saturday, making reference to the unrest of 2001. The Congress threatened to organise a conference of opposition leaders if the Prime Minister did not comply with their request.

Jairam Ramesh of the Congress claimed that Manipur was on fire 22 years prior, on June 18, 2001. The blockage lasted for three and a half months, during which time the Assembly, the Speaker's residence, and the CM Secretariat were all set on fire. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister at the time, and an all-party meeting was twice convened. Significantly, ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities claimed the lives of over 100 persons in Manipur a month ago. In addition to the state police forces, there are currently roughly 30,000 central security officers deployed in Manipur to uphold peace and order.
