A boat in Nigeria that was carrying wedding guests capsized. Many people are still missing and 103 people have died in this catastrophe. Officials claim that more than 100 people have been saved. With guests from a wedding on board, the boat was headed for Kwara State. Rain and extra passengers caused the boat to be overloaded.


Nigeria experienced a significant accident on Tuesday. In north central Nigeria, a boat containing 300 people returning from a wedding capsized in a river, according to police and local authorities (Boat Accident). More than 100 persons are said to have perished in this incident, and many more are reported missing. The number of fatalities is expected to rise significantly if the officials are to be believed. But the rescuers' rescue effort is still ongoing.


The ceremony of marriage was taking place throughout the state of the African nation of N in accordance with a report by the news agency AFP. To Kwara State, the boat was transporting wedding guests. Rain and extra passengers caused the boat to be overloaded. According to Okasanmi Ajay of the Kwara State Police, 103 persons have already perished in the boat tragedy, while more than 100 others have been saved.


The Niger River has a high rate of drownings due to lax safety measures and frequent flooding. In the northwest of Sokoto state, a boat drowned last month. 25 kids went missing and 15 drowned in this catastrophe. 


29 village youngsters drowned in the same river around a year ago while going to gather firewood for their homes. At least 76 persons drowned in December after severe flooding after the rainy season when their boat crashed in a river that crested in southeast Anambra state.


The Ministry of Global Affairs' efforts were effective, and 16 Indian hostages held in Nigeria were freed.

The National Inland Waterways Authority of Nigeria is trying to outlaw nighttime river sailing in order to reduce accidents and make overloading ships a crime, but captains and crew frequently flout the regulations.
