Brij Bhushan represented Balrampur as the BJP's MP at the time. Since 1988, when he first became actively involved in politics, he has served as a member of parliament six times. The 40 defendants in the Babri demolition case also included Brij Bhushan's name. In this case, prominent figures including LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Ram Vilas Vedanti, Vinay Katiyar, and Uma Bharti were charged.

On September 30, 2020, the Special CBI Court rendered its decision in this matter and found all of the defendants not guilty.  Prateik Bhushan Singh and Karan Bhushan Singh are his other two sons. Pratik Gonda has served as the Sadar seat's MLA twice. Karan was chosen to serve as the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association's senior vice-president in 2018.

In 1996, when Brijbhushan Sharan Singh was detained in Tihar Jail pursuant to TADA, his wife Ketki Singh stood for the Lok Sabha constituency of Gonda and defeated Congress candidate Anand Singh by a margin of 80000 votes. He currently serves as the President of the Indian Wrestling Federation. Top national wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia have formed a front against the WFI Chief and have levelled severe accusations of sexual harassment against him.

On the basis of a complaint from 7 female wrestlers, including 1 minor, the Delhi Police also filed two FIRs against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, one of which was filed under the POCSO Act. The inquiry into the incident is ongoing, but the wrestler is keen that Brij Bhushan be taken into custody.
