Odisha train accident: Wife revealed after husband was allegedly slain falsely to receive compensation
Gitanjali Dutta, a native of Maniyabanda in the Cuttack district, stated that her husband Bijay Dutta perished in an accident involving a railway on June 2. Additionally, she had recognised a dead body as being her spouse. The documents, however, revealed that the woman's assertion was untrue.
Bhubaneswar. The state government and the Railways are providing aid to the relatives of those who perished in the horrifying train disaster on Friday evening in the Balasore district of Odisha. However, a case of fraud involving a woman who claimed her husband had died "falsely" in order to receive this ex-gratia has also been revealed. This woman's husband allegedly filed a complaint against his wife on this matter, at which point she allegedly fled.
In the Cuttack district, Geetanjali Dutta, a native of Maniyabanda, had asserted that her husband Bijay Dutta had perished in a train accident on June 2. Additionally, she had recognised a dead body as being her spouse. The documents, yet, revealed that the woman's assertion was untrue.
The woman was given a warning at the time, according to the police, but her problems began when her husband Bijay Dutta reported the incident to the Maniyabanda police station. He claimed that the woman fled because she feared being arrested. For the previous thirteen years, she had been living apart from her spouse.
According to the police, Bijay has requested stern punishment against Gitanjali for allegedly trying to embezzle government funds and making up her own demise. However, the police have instructed Bijay to lodge a case at Bahanaga police station in the Balasore district as the accident occurred there, according to Maniyabanda station in-charge Basant Kumar Satyapati.
In the meantime, the Railways and the Odisha Police have been tasked by the state's chief secretary, PK Jena, to take strong action against anyone making false claims of dead bodies.
Significantly, on June 2, three trains—two passenger trains and a goods train—derailed in Balasore, Odisha, resulting in 288 fatalities and 1,200 injuries. The families of those murdered in this train disaster will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Rs 10 lakh from the Ministry of Railways.
