An official with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday that the very severe cyclone "Biparjoy" is likely to strengthen into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours but is not anticipated to strike the Gujarat coast. Although Gujarat may see gales and severe gusts over the next five days, the cyclone is predicted to pass 200–300 km off the coast of Porbandar.


IMD notified

The cyclonic storm is now 600 kilometres away from Porbandar, according to Manorama Mohanty, director of the Ahmedabad (India) Meteorological Department centre. The port signal indication will adjust as things go along. The cyclone is currently predicted to cross 200–300 km between Naliya (Kutch) and Porbandar. According to the forecast, there is no chance that it will reach the Gujarat shore.


The cyclone is travelling towards the north.

According to him, all fishing operations have been banned and fishermen have been advised not to go into the Arabian Sea for the next five days. The cyclone is moving north, according to Mohanty. Within the following 24 hours, it is anticipated to change its speed to the northeast. The cyclone will then proceed in a north-northwesterly direction.


Gujarat will experience storms during the next five days.

According to him, there is a chance of thunderstorms in Gujarat during the course of the next five days, particularly in the Saurashtra-Kutch region where wind speeds will be very high. According to Mohanty, the Saurashtra-Kutch region would experience winds of 30 to 40 kmph during the course of the next two days. After that, the area is likely to experience wind gusts of up to 50 kmph and wind speeds of 30 to 50 kmph.


Fishermen are urged to use caution

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been dispatched by the authorities to the Porbandar, Gir Somnath, and Valsad districts.
