The Women's Premier League (WPL) auction on Monday witnessed some thrilling auctions and expensive buys. 10 players were bought for ₹1 crore, out of which 4 players were bought for more than ₹2 crore. Check out the list of players who have joined the ₹2 crore club.
Smriti Mandhana: The 26-year-old stole the thunder in the inaugural WPL auction as Royal Challengers Bangalore pipped Mumbai Indians to buy the India vice-captain for ₹3.40 crore on Monday.
"We are looking at the men's (players) auction. It is such a big moment for the women to have an auction like this. The whole thing is spot on. RCB's legacy is huge, they have built a huge fan base. Hope we like Mandhana Said, together they can make a great team.
Deepti Sharma: The second costliest buy was all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who was bought by UP Warriors for ₹2.6 crore.
Deepti, on her part, said, "We waited for this opportunity and since I am from UP, it is a great feeling. I want to contribute as much as possible for UP Warriors."
Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues: Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, stars of Sunday's T20 World Cup game against Pakistan, were bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore and ₹2.20 crore respectively.
Rodrigues is the first buy of the Delhi Capitals franchise at the auction in Mumbai. UP Warriors started the bidding with ₹50 lakh. Delhi Capitals entered and took it up to ₹75 lakh, battling with the Warriors for the star batsman. The Capitals raised it to ₹1.5 crore to lock down the Warriors. Mumbai Indians entered for ₹1.6 crore and took it in excess of ₹2 crore, but the Capitals raised their bid to ₹2.2 crore and secured the services of the star batsman.
Apart from this, there are 6 other players in the ₹1 crore club, which include Pooja Vastrakar, Richa Ghosh, Yastika Bhatia, Yastika Bhatia.
