World Radio Day was established by UNESCO in 2011 to celebrate the famous medium. This year's theme is "Radio and Peace".

"On the special occasion of World Radio Day, greetings to all radio listeners, RJs and all others associated with the broadcast eco-system," tweeted PM Modi, "May radio continue to shine, through imaginative programming and showcasing of human creativity" . lives."

Additionally, the Prime Minister sought feedback for the upcoming telecast of his monthly show "Mann Ki Baat" on 26 February.

Radio, one of the most accessible and widely used forms of communication, predates television, newspapers, mobile devices, and the Internet.

World Radio Day is celebrated annually on 13 February to honor the importance of radio.

The United Nations says radio is a popular, low-cost medium that can reach the most disadvantaged and remote areas. It continues to broadcast when other media are unavailable for emergency communications or after a natural disaster.

Last but not the least, it is a medium that has successfully adapted to mobile devices and technological advancements such as broadband and digital audio transmission (DAB).

Radio broadcasting has been taking place in India since the early 1920s. In July 1923, the Radio Club of Mumbai broadcast the first radio program under British rule. The Calcutta Radio Club also started broadcasting four months later.

One of the world's largest radio broadcasters, AIR has over 415 radio stations that broadcast in approximately 23 languages and 146 dialects. It also has 18 FM channels and covers 99 percent of the population.
