The comments came after reports emerged from Russia about disenchantment among Putin's inner circle.
According to a Newsweek report, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be killed by his inner circle, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has said in a documentary titled 'Ear'. The comments come as the war between Russia and Ukraine completes one year on February 24 with no end in sight.
The documentary 'Year' was released on February 24 to mark the first anniversary of the war that ravaged Ukraine, even as the eastern European country continues to struggle and hopes to defeat Russia this year.
Zelensky based his claim on the fact that a period of 'fragility' in the Russian leader's rule would cause his 'inner circle' to rebel against him and kill him.
"Surely there will come a moment when the fragility of Putin's regime will be felt inside Russia. And then hunters will eat a hunter. They will find a reason to kill a killer. They will remember Komarov's words to Zelensky. ..They will remember. They will find a reason to kill the killer. Will it work? Yes. When? I don't know," the Ukrainian president said, according to Newsweek.
The comments came after reports from Russia about frustration among Putin's inner circle. The Washington Post recently said that close aides of the Russian president are growing increasingly frustrated with him, as battlefield videos show his soldiers complaining and crying.
However, independents had a contrary claim. He added that it is a very unlikely scenario where Putin's closest aides would kill him, given that many of them hold their positions in the government.
Zelensky also said on Sunday that the return of Ukrainian control over the Crimean peninsula would be part of the end of the war.
"This is our land. Our people. Our history. We will return the Ukrainian flag to every corner of Ukraine," he said on Twitter.
