What is Metro Neo Project, which will be implemented in Nagpur?

MahaMetro is working on the feasibility of implementing the Metro Neo system in cities with a population of up to 2 million, with Nashik being at the forefront, MahaMetro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit said at MahaMetro's Foundation Day event here on Saturday.


We are confident that we will be successful in this task as well. The central and state governments are looking at the development positively," he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

It is a low-cost mobility solution with lower system requirements and similar experience, and ease of travel in terms of comfort, convenience, affordability, safety, punctuality, reliability and eco-friendliness at par with a conventional metro rail system.


Dixit further said that the second phase of Nagpur Metro Rail will be completed in the next five years and the work is scheduled to start in April.


He said that the second phase of 44.5 km would cover 19 km from Butibori, 7 km from Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, 13 km from Automotive Chowk to Kanhan and 5.5 km from Prajapati Nagar to Kapasi.


In December 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project here and traveled in a train with students. He also laid the foundation stone of the second phase of the metro project.


There are 36 stations under the first phase of the project, covering a distance of 40 km. Officials said the project has been developed at a cost of over ₹8,650 crore. The second phase of the project will be developed at over ₹6,700 crore. It will have 32 stations.
