Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Patrick Rider said on Wednesday that the US wants to be India's security partner not only in the first resort, but also its 'key partner' in its extraordinary growth story.

The comments were made while responding to a question on the recently launched India-US Initiative on Critical Emerging Technologies, which has a significant defense component.

“The high level of involvement from the US government, US industry and our universities is unprecedented, and sends a strong signal that the United States wants to be not only India's first resort security partner – but India's premier partner. Extraordinary growth story," said Ryder.

He said the Department of Defense is excited to work with other US agencies and partners as part of the White House-led United States-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET).

“We look forward to sharing more information on our defense cooperation with India as new initiatives move forward. These initiatives will accelerate defense sales to defense joint production and development and promote integration between US and Indian defense firms," Ryder said.

Earlier this month, the ICET was launched on the instructions of US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called for a strategic technology partnership between governments, businesses and academic institutions after a Tokyo meeting in May 2022, and to enhance defense industrial cooperation and expansion was announced. of both the countries.

Under the ICET, the two countries have identified six areas of cooperation which will include co-development and co-production, which will be gradually expanded to the Quad, then NATO, Europe and the rest of the world.

In January, the Biden administration had also said that India is an important partner of America's choice.
