After Mahashivratri, there are four more bank holidays this month including the fourth Saturday and Sunday

Mahashivratri 2023: Banks in India remain closed during public holidays while some remain closed on state-specific holidays. Banks across the country remain closed on gazetted holidays such as Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. Whereas bank holidays on festivals like Mahashivaratri are state specific.

Mahashivratri is celebrated in every state of the country including Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh or Telangana.

Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Hyderabad (AP & Telangana), Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram.

Mahashivaratri, happens only once every year in February/March. It is considered particularly auspicious, as it is believed to be the night of convergence of Shiva and Shakti, which essentially means the male and female energies that keep the world in balance. Shiva and Shakti are worshiped as the embodiment of love, power and unity.

Shiva devotees undergo a 24-hour fast which is broken the next morning. Mahashivaratri Puja, unlike many other festivals, is performed at night.

Tripura, Mizoram, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, Rajasthan, Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Bihar and Meghalaya.

February 20: Banks will remain closed in Aizawl on account of statehood day.

February 21: Banks will remain closed in Gangtok due to Losar.

February 25: Fourth Saturday

February 26: Sunday
