India reports 124 new Covid cases

New Delhi : India has registered 124 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, data from the Union Health Ministry on Sunday. With 530,750 Covid-related deaths since the start of the Covid pandemic, the total number of Covid cases has reached 44.7 million.

There is a steady decline in the number of Covid cases across the country, Karnataka has 123 active cases while Kerala has 1,248 active cases. Maharashtra has 82 active cases, Odisha has 80 cases, Rajasthan has 11 cases, Tamil Nadu has 48 active cases; So far there are 16 active cases in Uttar Pradesh and 39 in West Bengal.

While India has a total of 1,843 active cases at a rate of 0.01%, around 44,151,525 people have recovered from the infection, taking the current recovery rate to 98.81%. Furthermore, the daily positivity rate is 0.10% and the weekly positivity rate is 0.09%.

With the rapid decline in the pace of Covid cases, scientists believe that Omicron and its sub-lineages will not affect India as a large number of the population has already been exposed to the virus and vaccinated. Scientists say that people in India have developed hybrid immunity (due to vaccination and natural infection). However, he advises people to wear masks in crowded places and complete the vaccination dose if not done yet.

Currently, a large number of cases are being reported in China and other countries as a result of which the central government has tightened the Covid preparedness measures. The government has directed INSACOG, under the supervision of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), to closely monitor the COVID situation in the country and continue to undertake genome sequencing to track any new variants.

The government is conducting RT-PCR tests for people returning from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and South Korea. In view of the decline in the pace of Covid cases in India and other countries, the Government of India has withdrawn the filling of the 'Air Suvidha' form for passengers from six countries, under which RT-PCR test was mandatory 72 hours ago.

The country has conducted more than 128,492 tests in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of Covid tests so far to 91.70 crore.

So far, more than 220.62 crore vaccine doses have been given to people across the country under the Covid vaccination campaign. In the last 24 hours, around 7,591 vaccine doses were administered.

In addition, hospitals have been asked to maintain surveillance for COVID infection and Influenza-like illness (III) in 5% and all SARI cases.
