Delta Airlines employees to get 5% pay bump amid strong travel demand

Delta Airlines will increase its workers' pay by 5% to capitalize on strong demand for air travel

Delta Air Lines Inc said on Tuesday it would increase its employees' pay by 5%, amid an industry-wide shortage of workers, as airlines seek to capitalize on strong demand for air travel.

The airline's chief executive Ed Bastian wrote in a memo to employees that Delta's increases included a 5% base pay increase for ground and flight attendant employees at all stages of the pay scale worldwide and a 5% pool for eligible employees. Is.

The pay hike, which will be effective from April 1, comes at a time when airlines are coming up with attractive pay offers to retain and add employees to the workforce following a bigger-than-expected boom in the US travel market.

The Atlanta-based carrier's pilots last month offered its pilots a 34% cumulative pay increase over three years in a new contract after voting overwhelmingly in October to authorize a strike.

The latest increases include all workers worldwide, except those covered by an industry or government requirement or collective bargaining agreement.

Delta shares were down about 2% in afternoon trading.
