The official stated that in order to increase the number of indirect taxpayers, the federal government is developing a plan with the help of the state governments. By January 2023, Johri predicted, there would be 14 million enterprises covered by the GST, up from over 6 million in 2017

These numbers will be used by the government to increase taxes.

According to Vivek Johri, the government will leverage information from various government agencies as well as data from commercial databases to raise taxes in the business-to-consumer (B2C) sector. These databases might contain information on people who pay income taxes, property taxes, commercial directors, and electricity distribution corporations, which would allow the tax base to grow. State and other taxes were merged into the GST when it was introduced in 2017.
