Bengaluru South MP Tejashwi Surya 'accidentally' opened flight door: Govt

Last month, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had also said that Surya had opened the emergency exit door of an IndiGo flight by 'mistake' and he has already apologised.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya "accidentally" opened the door of an Indigo flight, the Center admitted in Parliament.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh was asked in Parliament whether the government has identified the passenger who illegally opened the emergency door of an Indigo flight in Chennai. To which the minister replied in yes.

The minister said Surya opened the door by mistake and the airline did not find the passenger violating any rule.

"As per the report submitted by Interglobe Aviation Limited, the passenger named in the incident is Mr. Tejaswi Surya, who had boarded flight 6E-7339 (Chennai to Tiruchirappalli) at Chennai airport on December 10, 2022.

In a written reply, Singh said, "As explained by InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the emergency door opened by mistake. It was not an intentional act and according to InterGlobe Aviation, they did not find the passenger violating any rule."

BJP MP Surya is facing criticism from the Congress over the incident that took place at the Chennai airport on December 10 last year.

Besides this, Singh was asked whether the aviation regulatory body DGCA has taken any action. They replied that as per the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) regarding 'Notification of incidents and their investigation', the incident does not fall under the category of 'reportable incident'.

He said the incident took place when the aircraft was on the ground and the flight took off only after completing all safety checks/protocols.

Last month, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had also said that Surya had opened the emergency exit door of an Indigo flight "by mistake" and he had already apologized for it. However, the minister did not directly name Tejashwi Surya but called him a 'traveller'.
