Adani controversy: Congress leader files petition in SC, demands probe against group

 


The petition has been filed by Congress leader Dr. Jaya Thakur, alleging that Gautam Adani and his associates have 'cheated lakhs of crores of public money'.

Amidst the Hindenburg report of Adani group creating tension in the stock market, Congress leader Dr. Jaya Thakur filed a petition in the Supreme Court on February 14 seeking a probe against the Adani group, reports Live Law.

The petition has been filed by Congress leader Dr. Jaya Thakur alleging that Gautam Adani and his associates have "swindled lakhs of crores of public money".

As per the details, the petition has also sought a probe against LIC and SBI for allegedly investing ₹3200 a share in Adani FPO when the price in the secondary market was ₹1800 a share.

Dr. Jaya Thakur in her petition sought a probe by investigative agencies like CBI, ED, DRI, SEBI, RBI, SFIO etc. under the supervision and supervision of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.

Currently, the top court is considering two other PILs seeking probe against Hindenburg Research for causing damage to the stock market through short-selling.

Earlier on Friday, it noted that investors in Adani Group suffered losses after short-seller Hindenburg Research reported and observed that investors need to be protected.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala asked the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to suggest measures to ensure the safety of Indian investors following the Adani Group's short selling report. It had fixed the hearing on two PILs on February 13.

Also, the CJI sought answers from the finance ministry and SEBI by February 13 on how to ensure investor protection in future.
