A quick guide to Asia's biggest air show: From fifth generation aircraft to high-tech drones


Aero India 2023 exhibition sees participation of over 800 defense companies including around 100 foreign and 700 Indian companies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru on Monday. The five-day event will focus on showcasing indigenous equipment/technologies and forging partnerships with foreign companies.

More than 80 countries participated in Aero India 2023. Aero India 2023 is likely to be attended by ministers from around 30 countries and 65 CEOs from global and Indian OEMs.

The Aero India 2023 exhibition saw the participation of over 800 defense companies, including around 100 foreign and 700 Indian companies.

Indian companies participating in the exhibition include MSMEs and start-ups, which will showcase the advancement of niche technologies, and growth in aerospace and defense capabilities in the country.

Here are some average flying machines that spectators can see during the event:

Su-57E: multifunctional 5th generation aircraft system

Su-57E perspective multirole fighter designed to perform a wide range of combat tasks, operating against air, ground and surface targets day and night with the use of up-to-date progressive guided and unguided warheads.

Orlan-30 reconnaissance drone

The Orlan-30 is intended for aerial reconnaissance, search, detection and identification of objects in the visible or infrared range.

Russia will also showcase the Orlan-30 reconnaissance drone for the first time abroad at the Aero India 2023 air show.

F/A-18F Super Hornet

Will the F-35 make its debut at Aero India?

According to some media reports, the most advanced fifth-generation fighter aircraft F-35 may be showcased at Aero India 2023, although there is no official confirmation by the authorities.
