a ban on bike taxi services: major development! Ola, Uber, and Rapido were all outlawed in this city by the government; see details
Delhi has banned the use of bike taxis, so you can no longer use one there. On grounds of breaking the law, the Arvind Kejriwal administration in Delhi has ordered a halt to Ola, Uber, and Rapido's bike services.
The Delhi Transport Department has issued a circular warning against people riding bikes while carrying passengers. The warning states that failure to comply will result in both a significant fine and the suspension of the accused's driver's licence.
There will be a 10,000 rupee fine.
According to a notice released by the Delhi government, it is illegal to transport passengers on any type of two-wheeler under the terms of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988. In the event that he is discovered doing so, he will be required to pay a fine of 5,000 and 10,000 rupees, respectively. In addition to a possible year in jail, the bike will be taken away if the fine is not paid.
Aggregator is fined one lakh rupees.
The Kejriwal administration warned Ola, Uber, and Rapido to stop operating bike taxis in the city before removing this notice because they were doing so without authorization. A fine of up to Rs 1 lakh can be imposed on the aggregator, or the companies operating it, for violating the Motor Vehicles Act by transporting people on bikes and scooters (bike taxis). Additionally, the owner of the bike-scooter may have their licence suspended for a period of three months.
This issue is prevalent across many states.
On the subject of operating bike taxis without permission, there is a dispute between the governments of various states and the businesses that operate them. Rapido Company was prohibited by the Maharashtra government for starting a bike service without authorization. Following this, the business asked the government for a licence, but the state government rejected it because it was against the law. Following that, the business petitioned the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court declined to grant the company any relief in this situation.
The decision may also be made by other states.
After the Delhi government banned all three of the major bike taxi companies, it is thought that other states may follow suit. In addition, inquiries about this bike taxi may become more animated. Describe how the Motor Vehicle Act was changed in 2019 to include a clause stating that no aggregator can operate without a current licence.
