Several tech giants are jumping into the fray with fitness offerings like Apple Health and Google Fit, but there's still not much in the way of actual medicine. Fitness watches can measure users' steps, heart rate or sleep cycles, but don't delve into the in-depth diagnosis of internal indicators that could serve as early warning signs of serious illness.

Drug major Cipla has launched a product for the diagnosis of various health conditions including diabetes, infectious diseases and thyroid function.

Named Cippoint, it is a point-of-care testing device that provides a wide range of test parameters including cardiac markers, diabetes, infectious diseases, fertility, thyroid function, inflammation, metabolic markers and coagulation markers.

Cipla said the device has been approved by the European In-Vitro Diagnostic Devices Directive.

SipPoint will allow healthcare professionals to receive test results in 3 to 15 minutes, thus enabling a faster clinical decision-making process.

Cipla said that SipPoint has an automated system and user-friendly interface, which can be used even in rural areas, mobile vans and remote areas with limited infrastructure.

Achin Gupta, Business CEO, Cipla One India, said, “We are actively working towards delivering innovative solutions that enable quick and effective diagnosis, thereby bridging the gaps in the diagnostic ecosystem. further reinforces our vision of supporting patients across the healthcare continuum."

With the device, the company has expanded its product offering for diagnostic laboratories and aims to bridge the existing gap in the diagnostic ecosystem in India by providing reliable and accurate tests at affordable prices, the company said.
