The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on 30 January due to a landslide in Ramban district, leaving a few hundred vehicles stranded on the main road.
Between Chanderkote and Banihal in the district, the 270-km-long highway - the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country - was blocked by mudslides and flying rocks. Additionally, this has resulted in 300 vehicles being stuck at several highway intersections, and personnel and equipment have been dispatched to clear the area.
