Railway passenger revenue grew by 71% during April-December

 



The total earnings in the passenger segment for Indian Railways on a basic basis during April to December stood at Rs. 48,913 crores


New Delhi: The Indian Railways registered a 71% growth in revenue from the passenger segment between April and December, said a government statement on Monday.


“The total estimated earning in passenger segment for Indian Railways during April to December 2022 is Rs. 48,913 crore, registering a growth of 71 per cent as compared to Rs. 28,569 crore was achieved during the same period last year," the Railway Ministry's statement highlighted.


The revenue generated from the reserved passenger segment has increased by 56% during this financial year so far. The figure stood at ₹38,483 crore as compared to ₹26,400 crore during the same period last year.


The revenue generated from the unreserved passenger segment between April 1 and December 31 is ₹10,430 crore as compared to ₹2,169 crore during the same period last year, showing a growth of 381%, the statement read.


The ministry said that in the reserved passenger segment, there has been a 6% increase in the total estimated number of passengers who booked tickets between April 1 and December 31. This was 59.61 crore bookings as compared to 56.05 crore during the same period last year.


On the other hand, in the unreserved passenger segment, there has been an increase of 137 per cent in the estimated number of passengers booked during the period April 1 to December 31.


“In the unreserved passenger segment, the total estimated number of passengers booked during the period April 1 to December 31, 2022 is 40,197 lakh as compared to 16,968 lakh during the same period last year, showing a growth of 137%.”


Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Railways in a release said that on a cumulative basis from April-December this year, 1109.38 MT of freight was carried as against loading of 1029.96 MT during the same period last year, an improvement of 8%. Is.
