OYO sees 'record' bookings on New Year's Eve

 


According to OYO data, Uttar Pradesh will become the most visited state in 2022.

Travel tech firm OYO saw over 4.5 lakh bookings on New Year's Eve, the highest per hotel booking for India in the last five years, said Ritesh Agarwal, founder and group CEO.

In a series of tweets, the Oyo CEO talked about the "busiest day of the year" for the travel technology company and shared that the company saw more bookings in Varanasi than in Goa.

“Over 450k+ bookings were done on this New Year's Eve globally. This is 35% more than last year. We are also seeing the highest bookings per hotel per day for India in the last 5 years today. #CheckIn2023," Agarwal tweeted.

The year 2022 saw a big boom in travel and tourism. Globally, leisure destinations have led the travel recovery curve, while business and cultural travel in India have contributed significantly to this sector.

"Bookings from Goa are increasing by the hour. But guess which city is leaving Goa behind? Varanasi," Agarwal said in a tweet.

He shared information from Travelopedia 2022, Oyo's annual travel trends index, which showed that smaller cities are witnessing the highest growth in bookings, reports PTI.

According to OYO data, Uttar Pradesh has become the most visited state in 2022. Smaller towns and cities in Uttarakhand such as Hathras, Srinagar, Sasaram, Karaikudi and Tenali saw the highest growth in bookings in 2022 as compared to 2021.


Talking about the overall increase in activity during New Year's Eve, Agarwal said, "Over 1M (million) people were looking to book on OYO's app and website. Price changes on our app stood at 12.7 million It's folded."
