LIC lost ₹16,580 crore in two days in these 5 shares of Adani

Amidst the stock market uproar, the Hindenburg Research report hurt Adani Group shares further. In the past two sessions, shares of Adani Group have underperformed major benchmark indices, leading to huge losses for its retail and institutional investors. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is one such domestic institutional investor (DII) which has a major stake in Adani Group shares. In the last two days, LIC has incurred a loss of ₹16,580 crore. Of these ₹16,580 crore losses in the last two days, LIC lost ₹6,232 crore in Adani Total Gas, a stock in the Adani group, in which it holds 5.96 per cent stake.

Here we list the complete details regarding LIC's holding in Adani Group shares and the losses incurred after the Hindenburg Research report became public:

1] Adani Enterprises: In this flagship Adani group company, LIC holds 4,81,74,654 shares, which is 4.23 per cent of the total paid-up capital of the company. In the last two days, Adani Enterprises share price has fallen from ₹3,442 to ₹2,768.50 per share on NSE, which means Adani Enterprises shares have declined by ₹673.5 per share in last two days. According to Adani Enterprises Ltd's shareholding data for the October to December 2022 quarter, LIC holds 4,81,74,654 shares of Adani Enterprises. This means that LIC has lost around ₹3,245 crore (₹673.50 x 4,81,74,654) due to the fall in Adani Enterprises stock in the last two days.


2] Adani Ports: As per the shareholding pattern of this company for Q3FY23, LIC holds 19,75,26,194 shares of the company or 9.14 per cent stake in the company. Adani Port share price has fallen from ₹761.20 to ₹604.50 per share in the last two days, a loss of ₹156.70 per share in two sessions. Since LIC holds 19,75,26,194 shares of Adani Port, the net loss to LIC in these two days is ₹3,095 crore (₹156.70 x 19,75,26,194).

3] Adani Transmission: As per Adani Transmission's shareholding data for the October to December 2022 quarter, LIC holds 4,06,76,207 shares or 3.65 per cent stake in the company. In the last two days, Adani Transmission's share price has fallen from ₹2,762.15 to ₹2,014.20 per share, a loss of ₹747.95 per share in these two days. Since LIC holds 4,06,76,207 shares of Adani Transmission, LIC's net loss in Adani Transmission shares in the last two days is approximately ₹3,042 crore (₹747.95 x 4,06,76,207).


4] Adani Green: As per the latest shareholding pattern of Adani Green Energy Ltd for the quarter ended December 2022, LIC holds 2,03,09,080 shares or 1.28 per cent stake in the company. Adani Green share price has declined by ₹430.55 in the last two days, resulting in a loss of around ₹875 crore in the last two sessions.
