India becomes second largest contributor to Singapore tourist arrivals

A total of 612,300 visitors from India are expected to arrive in Singapore by November 2022.

India has now overtaken China in terms of the number of tourists in Singapore. Indian tourists are the second largest number of tourists arriving in Singapore. According to news agency ANI, before the Covid-19 pandemic, China had the highest number of tourists visiting the island nation.

According to data from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), a total of 612,300 visitors from India arrived in Singapore by November 2022.

They live the longest with an average length of 8.61 days compared to an average of 5.19 days. For comparison, Indonesians stayed an average of 4.66 days, Malaysians 4.28 days and Australians 4.05 days.

Indonesia is the largest source of foreign visitors to Singapore with 986,900 visitors till November, while Malaysia is third with 495,470, followed by Australia (476,480) and the Philippines (325,480), reported ANI.

Together, these four countries account for almost half (48 percent) of total arrivals in the small island state, according to official figures.

Singapore is set to report its best year ever for tourism since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the travel sector with visitors from Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Australia.

The number of foreign arrivals in Singapore reached 5.37 million. In July this year, the Singapore Tourism Board said that Singapore is expected to receive 4 to 6 million visitors in 2022.

With China announcing last week that it will allow its citizens to travel abroad again, it looks like Singapore tourism will reach a new post-pandemic level in 2023, reports ANI.

The number of visitors in both October and November was approximately 816,000. With December traditionally a busy travel period for visitors to Singapore, this figure is expected to be maintained and arrivals are forecast to reach around 6.2 million.
