• The Economic Survey is presented a day before the budget to be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February.
The budget session of Parliament will begin at 11 am on Tuesday and the President will address both the Houses in joint session. Following the address, the Economic Survey will be presented with projections for economic growth for the financial year 2022/23.
The Economic Survey is presented a day before the Budget which will be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February.
Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Dr V Ananth Nageswaran will unveil the document to the public at a press conference after the presentation of the Economic Survey 2021-22 by the Finance Minister in Parliament.
What is Economic Survey?
The document, which has been tabled in both the Houses of Parliament, reviews the developments in the Indian economy in the last financial year.
The Economic Survey document consists of Volume I, Volume II and Statistical Appendix. This comes a day before the Union Budget is presented in Parliament by the Finance Minister. It was separated from the budget in 1964 and unveiled in advance to provide a later context.
The Economic Survey is prepared by the Economics Division, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, under the overall guidance of the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA).
The survey also helps in giving a better understanding of the Union Budget by understanding the country's priority for the next financial year and which areas need more emphasis.
