Delhi weather update: Rain likely tomorrow, relief from cold wave over weekend

 


• Delhi Weather: Cold wave conditions will end from Thursday-Friday under the influence of two western disturbances.

According to the Meteorological Department, the national capital Delhi, which is suffering from severe cold, may get some relief in the weekend.

The city entered its eighth cold wave day on Wednesday - the most in the past 12 years.

Delhi's Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius, Palam 6 degrees Celsius and Ayanagar 3.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

In 2020, Delhi witnessed seven days of cold wave in January.

The national capital recorded intense cold wave from January 5 to 9 - the second longest period in the month in a decade.

Delhi witnessed foggy conditions for more than 50 hours in January this year.

The weather forecast agency has predicted that cold wave conditions will abate from Thursday-Friday under the influence of two western disturbances.

Light rain or drizzle may also occur in the city on Thursday night.


A Western Disturbance is a weather system characterized by warm moist winds from the Middle East-- come over an area, the wind direction changes.

As per the latest weather forecast, light to moderate rain and hailstorm accompanied by wind speed reaching 50 kmph has been predicted over northwest India including Delhi on January 23-24 under the influence of another Western Disturbance.

Delhi has not recorded any rainfall so far this winter season.

Last year, the city recorded 82.2 mm of rainfall in January, the highest for the month since 1901.

Due to foggy conditions, several flights and trains were delayed due to reduced visibility.

Northern Railway said six trains were running late due to fog.

Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special, Kamakhya-Delhi Brahmaputra Mail, Visakhapatnam-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express, Sultanpur-Anand Vihar Terminal Sadbhavna Express, Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana, Manikpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express are running late. Up to 1 hour," Northern Railway said.
