Delhi: Security beefed up for Republic Day celebrations

 




Republic Day 2023: Around 6,000 security personnel have been deployed in New Delhi district along with 24 help desks for the participants of the celebrations on duty.

Around 6,000 security personnel have been deployed in the New Delhi district with 24 help desks for event participants on duty, police said, adding that around 60,000 people are expected to attend the event today.


According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi) Pranav Tayal, people without valid passes or tickets will not be allowed to attend the Republic Day celebrations on the duty path. Access this year is based on the QR code on the pass. More than 150 CCTV cameras have been installed and some of them have facial recognition system as well.


Meanwhile, an NSG-DRDO anti-drone team has also been deployed for security purposes, PTI reported citing police officials.


At Delhi's borders, additional pickets have been set up and vehicles entering the national capital are being checked. Anti-sabotage checks are being carried out at markets, crowded areas and other prominent places, police said.


As per the PTI report, the authorities have been conducting the verification drive in hotels, dharamshalas, guest houses, cinema halls, parking lots and bus terminals for the last two to three months.


The police as well as paramilitary personnel have been briefed about the security protocols and procedures, officials said. Patrolling is being done while a large number of audio and visual messages are being played through the public announcement system.


Delhi Police also asked people through social media to be alert about any suspicious person, activity or article.
