America: 8 people died in recent shooting incidents

Mass shootings in the US: Two students were also killed at a Des Moines school designed to keep at-risk youth out of trouble.

At least four people were shot dead in a northern California agricultural area on Monday, officials and local lawmakers said, adding that a suspect in the killings is currently in custody.

The killings occurred in separate shootings on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, about 30 miles south of San Francisco, California state representative Josh Baker said, according to news agency The Associated Press.

In yet another shooting incident, two students were also killed at a Des Moines school designed to keep at-risk youth out of trouble. One person was also seriously injured during a targeted shooting incident in Des Moines.

Des Moines Mayor Frank Cooney said in an official statement that three people were arrested shortly after the shooting at the educational program Starts Right Here, according to the AP report.

Cooney identified the injured adult as William Holmes – known by the stage name Will Keeps – and said that the victims and those arrested were all teenagers.

Monday afternoon brings together a total of five families of teens affected by youth gun violence right here in our capital city. This is a growing and alarming phenomenon in our country, and one that we have seen frequently in the past and today in the City of Des Moines," Cooney said.

Two people were killed and three were seriously injured in a home-bound shooting at a Chicago apartment on Monday, police cited officials as saying. With this, the death toll in the recent firing incidents has gone up to eight.

Referring to shootings at schools, the AP reported that this was the sixth incident at a school in the US this year in which someone was injured or killed, but the first according to Education Week, which tracks school shootings.

Last year, there were 51 school accidents that resulted in injuries or deaths, and since 2018 there have been 150. In the worst school shooting last year, 21 people were killed at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
