Family-based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great help to relatives like children, spouse, parents of the principal resident who do not have supporting documents in their own name: UIDAI
Aadhaar card holders can now update their address online with the consent of the Head of Household (HOF), an official document from the Government of India. Aadhaar holders can now change their address online with the consent of the head of their household, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said on Tuesday.
"HOF-based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great help to relatives (children), spouse, parents etc. of a resident who do not have supporting documents in their own name to update address in their Aadhaar With people moving to cities and towns for various reasons within the country, such a facility would be beneficial to lakhs of people," the statement said.
The new option to update address is in addition to the existing address update facility using any valid proof of address prescribed by UIDAI.
"Any resident above the age of 18 years can become a HOF for this purpose and share his/her address with his/her relatives through this process," the statement said.
"Residents will have to pay a fee of ₹50 for the service. On successful payment, a Service Request Number (SRN) will be shared with the resident, and an SMS will be sent to the HoF regarding the address requested.
"The HOF has to accept the request and give its consent within 30 days from the date of receipt of the notification by logging into the My Aadhaar portal and the request will be processed," the statement said.
If the HOF declines to share his or her address or does not accept or decline within the prescribed 30 days of SRN generation, the request will be closed.
The resident, who wishes to update the address through this option, will be informed about the closure of the request through an SMS. The amount will not be refunded to the applicant if the request is closed or rejected due to disapproval of the HOF or rejected during the process, the statement said.
