20 trains, 6 flights delayed today due to low visibility, fog

Cold wave and fog continued to affect public transport in several north Indian states. India Meteorological scientists have said that the cold wave will continue till Wednesday (January 18).

The IMD has issued an orange alert for dense fog and cold conditions in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana on Sunday and Monday.

Due to low visibility, 20 trains are running late on Sunday.

According to Northern Railway officials, Darbhanga-New Delhi Clone Special, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi Express, Malda Town-Delhi Farakka Express, Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special, Banaras-New Delhi Kashi Vishwanath Express, Dibrugarh Town New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sai Nagar Shirdi Terminus-Kalka Superfast Express, Kamakhya-Delhi Brahmaputra Mail, Katihar-Amritsar Amrapali Express are running late by up to 2 hours.

"Raigad-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana Express, Visakhapatnam-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express, Ayodhya Cantt-New Delhi Express, Rajgir-New Delhi Shramjeevi Superfast Express, Raxaul-Anand Vihar Terminal Sadbhavna Express, Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana Express, Manikpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti, MGR Chennai Central-New Delhi Grand Trunk Express, MGR Chennai Central-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express, Hyderabad Deccan Namoli-New Delhi Telangana Express are also running late by 2 hours.

Meanwhile, around six flights departing from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) were delayed due to fog, informed the airport authority on Sunday.

Flight routes affected by the severe fog include Delhi-Riyadh, Delhi-Shimla-Kullu, Delhi-Varanasi, Delhi-Dharamshala-Srinagar, Delhi-Shimla-Dharamshala, Delhi-Dehradun.

According to satellite imagery and visibility data available from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a layer of fog extended from Punjab and adjoining northwest Rajasthan to Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Several districts of Himachal Pradesh and higher reaches of Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall yesterday. Mandhol village in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district received heavy snowfall on Saturday. Higher reaches of the state, including Narkanda, Manali and Malana villages in Kullu district also received snowfall.

Apart from this, the higher peaks of Badrinath and Chamoli districts also received snowfall yesterday.

In Himachal Pradesh, Manali received 23 cm, Khadrala and Shilaro 16 cm, Kufri 12 cm, Bharmour 10 cm, Shimla and Gondla 6 cm, Dalhousie and Kalpa 4 cm and 3 cm each. Hansa and Keylong.

The weather center in Shimla has predicted dry weather in the region for the next four days and warned of dense fog and cold wave in the lower hills till Tuesday.

Apart from this, three avalanches occurred in Ganderbal and Bandipora districts of Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, but there was no loss of life.
