This is when iOS users will get picture-in-picture mode for WhatsApp video calls

• In a blog post, WhatsApp said that picture-in-picture on iOS is currently in beta testing. This feature will roll out to users in 2023.

Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced several new features to improve calling on the platform. These include call link, 32-person calls, color waveforms, the ability to message/mute participants, and more. Earlier this month, it was reported that WhatsApp is working on picture-in-picture mode for video calls. Now, the company has confirmed the upcoming feature for Apple iPhone users.

In a blog post, WhatsApp said that picture-in-picture on iOS is currently in beta testing. This feature will roll out to users in 2023. It allows users to multitask and use other apps while in a WhatsApp video call.

"Now in beta testing and rolling out in 2023, multitask smoothly during a call thanks to the minimalistic in-call video screen," WhatsApp said in a blog post.

As reported by WaBetaInfo, beta testers who installed the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.24.0.79 update from the TestFlight app can see picture-in-picture mode for video calls. The report states that this feature is currently working on at least iOS 16.1 and later versions. So, this could be one of the features supported by the update which brings official support for iOS 16.

In related news, the instant messaging platform is rolling out three new large animated heart emoji for beta testing. As per a report, the instant messaging app has implemented the feature with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.18.8.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on an extreme version of its disappearing feature. According to a report in Mashable, WABetaInfo suggested that the extreme version of disappearing messages would be a message that can only be viewed once before disappearing, for both the sender and the recipient. The new feature can be found in the latest WhatsApp beta version 2.22.25.20 for Android. Reportedly, once a user sends such a message, the recipient cannot share or forward the message.
