Mukesh Agnihotri, Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan at 1.30 pm today.

Earlier today, Sukhu said that he was happy that he was going to become the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh despite being from a humble family.

"I am happy that I am going to become CM despite being from a simple family. I am thankful to Congress party and Gandhi family for giving me this opportunity. My mother never stopped me from joining politics. I am here today I have arrived." Because of his blessings," he said.

Sukhu is a grassroots politician who has risen from the ranks and has vast organizational experience in the hill state.

Earlier, Sukhu was the chairman of the Congress campaign committee for the assembly polls, in which the party focused on local issues and made attractive promises, including the old pension scheme.

He will be the second chief minister from Hamirpur district after BJP's Prem Kumar Dhumal.

Rahul Gandhi arrives in Shimla to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

State Congress chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh told party leader Rahul Gandhi in Shimla, "We reminded Rahul Gandhi that he has fulfilled the promise made to him, we had promised that we will bring back the Congress in Himachal Pradesh."

Rahul Gandhi along with his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached Shimla from Sanjauli helipad to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister-designate of the hill state.

On his arrival, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed her happiness saying: "We are very happy".

Speaking on the occasion, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the party's victory in the state assembly elections is an example of what happens when the party fights unitedly.

"It is a victory that belongs to the people of Himachal Pradesh. It is an example that when the Congress party fights unitedly, it is an example," he told ANI.

Gehlot asserted that the victory in Himachal Pradesh is a "new beginning for the Congress and the people of Himachal Pradesh", and also underlined that Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' is against inflation and unemployment.

However, Congress leader Sachin Pilot also expressed confidence in Sukhu that he would be able to deliver on the promises made by the party.

Sachin Pilot said, "I am sure that Sukhu will be able to fulfill all the promises made by the Congress. The people of Himachal Pradesh have always supported the Congress. We all will work together for the development of the state."
