Red Ribbon: The heartwarming story of Lionel Messi's lucky charm at the World Cup

It is a red ribbon worn by Lionel Messi since 2018. The story behind this is absolutely amazing. read on.

Lionel Messi celebrates in the locker room after Argentina defeated France in the penalty shootout in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final. He was seen wearing a red ribbon around his left ankle. A press meet at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia is where the ribbon's long history began.

Messi missed a penalty in Argentina's game against Iceland, which ended in a 1–1 draw, and afterwards, Argentine journalist Rama Pentarotto gave him his mother's red talisman as a symbol of good luck. He said that his mother loves Messi more than her son. He said that he keeps the red ribbon as a sign of good luck and that he could give it to Messi if he wanted.

The reporter also requested Macy to keep the red ribbon somewhere safe as it belonged to his mother as Macy was "kind of wretched" at the time. Messi smiled taking the ribbon from him.

After the red ribbon was given to him in the belief that it would bring him good luck, the Albiceleste captain scored a goal in Argentina's final group match against Nigeria in a 2–1 win that guaranteed their qualification for the round of 16.

During a later press conference, Pantarotto talked about the talisman, which he believed was rejected by Messi. "I don't know whether you remember. But, my mother gave you a ribbon," said the reporter. Messi smiled and said, "Look at this."

The reporters were stunned when Messi showed them that he was wearing a red band around his left ankle. "No way, no way," Pantarotto said, "did you score with that foot?"

Messi was still smiling as he said he had scored with the other foot, but it didn't matter which foot he used. Pantarotto found it hard to believe. "Dear mom, Messi wore it," he said, pointing to the sky before looking at the camera.
