• The question of captaincy came up as last IPL, MS Dhoni once again took over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings after Ravindra Jadeja announced to step down.

The Chennai Super Kings management pulled off a coup by buying England Test captain and the world's leading all-rounder Ben Stokes in what looked like a leadership succession plan and when Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to retire.

After roping in the England Test captain, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanath spoke on MS Dhoni's reaction to Ben Stokes joining the franchise. He also broke his silence on the captaincy issue.

ESPN Cricinfo quoted Kasi Vishwanath as saying, "Very excited to have Stokes and we were also lucky because he came in at the end."

Talking about MS Dhoni's reaction when Stokes came on board, he said, "We wanted an all-rounder and MS was very happy that we got Stokes."

Speaking further on the captaincy, he said that the captaincy is an option, "but it is a call that MS will take over time."

The question of captaincy came up as last IPL, Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again took over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings after Ravindra Jadeja announced to step down. This came after the team lost six out of eight matches. According to an official statement, Jadeja has decided to resign in order to concentrate and focus more on his game. Last season, Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Jadeja. But apart from CSK suffering severely in the IPL, Jadeja's own game also suffered due to the pressure that comes with the responsibility of leadership as he managed only 112 runs and took five wickets in eight matches.

There is also the option of captaincy but MS has to take that decision with time. Kyle Jamieson was injured so probably not many others looked at him. We had information from Fleming that he had recovered and was anxious to go. CSK is looking bright and I hope we do well this season. We always follow process and that will help us do well."

Meanwhile, England all-rounder Sam Curran on Friday became the costliest Indian Premier League (IPL) player at the players' auction as the world's richest cricket league went on a big spending spree ahead of the 2023 season.

Curran returned to the Punjab Kings for a staggering sum of 185 million Indian rupees ($2.23 million) after a fierce bidding war involving the Chennai Super Kings. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was the second highest earner after winning a bid of ₹17.5 crore from Mumbai Indians.
