Kavitha, Sharmila - daughters from different political dynasties make headlines in Telangana

Two women politicians from respective first families of several Telugu-speaking states are currently making headlines for developments that will determine their political future.

While Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is making headlines for a CBI probe into the infamous "Delhi liquor policy scam", YS Sharmila from neighboring Andhra Pradesh is struggling to prove her relevance in the state's politics . by the ruling BRS (Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi, formerly Telangana Rashtra Samithi).

Kavita and Sharmila, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), whose late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, are currently in limelight.

KCR's daughter was actively involved in the separate Telangana movement and was later elected from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 general elections. However, she lost to BJP leader Arvind Dharmapuri in 2019. Presently she is MLC of BRS party.

After her name cropped up in a remand report filed by the Enforcement Directorate in a Delhi court on alleged bribery in the liquor 'scam', Kavita said she is ready to face any probe.

The CBI had on November 25 filed its first charge sheet against the seven accused in the case.

"As per the investigation conducted so far, Vijay Nair has received a bribe of at least ₹100 crore from a group called South Group (controlled by Sarath Reddy, Ms K Kavitha, Magunta Sreenivasulu) on behalf of AAP leaders. Reddy ) by various persons including Amit Arora," the ED had said in a remand report filed in a Delhi court on one of the accused - Amit Arora.

After receiving the notice from the CBI, she had said, "I am a law-abiding citizen and will cooperate with the investigation...If the agencies come and ask us questions, we will definitely respond."

The CBI had questioned Kavita on December 11 at her residence here.

YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) chief Sharmila actively campaigned for her brother and AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the 2019 assembly elections. He later formed YSRTP and decided to pursue his political fortunes in Telangana.

Sharmila, who was not taken seriously in the political arena of Telangana, has become the talk of the town with her recent activities. She recently took out a protest march after her convoy was allegedly attacked by TRS supporters, forcing the city police to impound her car with Sharmila inside.

The incident drew widespread criticism across political parties in the southern state.

Following this, the Telangana police refused to allow them to continue their statewide padayatra (foot march), which was stopped in Warangal district. Protesting the police move, he began an indefinite fast at his Lotus Pond residence here, which was foiled by the city police in the early hours of December 11.

He has completed 3500 km foot march in Telangana.

Highlighting her Telangana ties, Sharmila had said, "I studied here (in Hyderabad). I gave birth to my son and daughter here. I am very relevant to this land (Telangana)." ,

Recently, both Kavita and Sharmila had a spat on Twitter after the incident of being dragged.

While Sharmila certainly gained political ground in the state with the unexpected turn of events, it remains to be seen how the situation will turn out for Kavita with regard to the "Delhi Liquor Scam" case. If she gets a clean chit from the investigating agency, she will emerge as an unblemished leader.
