How prepared is India for future pandemics? Experts discuss preparations in THSTI meeting

FARIDABAD (Haryana): On the first day of the International Conference on Preparedness for Future Pandemics, academicians, industrialists and policy makers deliberated on synergistic collaboration between academia and industry to help achieve rapid vaccine development.

The Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), an autonomous research institute of the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Union Government on “Preparing for future pandemics: Is India ready to meet the CEPI 100 days vaccine challenge” Is?" The meeting aims to develop a roadmap to accelerate the conceptualization, design, delivery of vaccine development for future pandemics.

The various sessions covered in the meeting include expediting vaccine development, academic research and development preparedness and industry preparedness.

Sessions on regulatory aspects, clinical trials and human challenge models to accelerate vaccine development are also on the agenda.

"India is poised to quickly create vaccines for future pandemics as its research institutions, regulatory bodies and industrial sector are prepared. Vijayaraghavan said at the event.

Dr. Pramod Garg, Director, THSTI highlighted the pioneering role played by the institute during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its multi-disciplinary approach.
