The Multi-Election Remote EVM, developed by a public sector undertaking, can handle 72 constituencies from a single remote polling station.
The Election Commission of India has developed a prototype of Remote Electronic Voting Machine for domestic overseas voters, Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said in an official statement.
It has also invited political parties to protest on January 16, according to news agency PTI.
The poll panel has also released a concept note on remote voting and sought views of political parties on legal, administrative and technical challenges in implementing it, the statement said.
It further informed that the Multi-Election Remote EVM, developed by a public sector undertaking, can handle 72 constituencies from a single remote polling station, PTI reported.
Based on the feedback received from various stakeholders and the performance of the prototype, the commission will take the process of implementing the remote voting method appropriately, reports ANI.
"With its focus on youth and urban apathy, remote voting will be a transformative initiative to strengthen participation in electoral democracy," Kumar said.
