Municipal Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti presented the budget of Delhi MCD on Tuesday. This was the first budget proposal brought by the Municipal Commissioner after the integration of the three civic bodies on May 22. The commissioner presented the MCD budget, which included the revised budget estimates for the year 2022-23 and the budget estimates for 2023- 24.

Of the total ₹16,023.55 crore, about 27.87% or ₹4,465.85 crore has been set aside for sanitation, 20.82% or ₹3,335.84 crore for general administration (which includes salaries and operational costs), 17.77% or ₹2,847.83 crore for the education sector , and 10.73% or ₹1719.49 for the public health and medical sectors.

Delhi has three sanitary landfill sites located at Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa. This proposed "engineering landfill site" would be the first such site in the city.

A former senior MCD official said that in an engineering landfill site, the soil is first scientifically prepared so that leachate does not seep into the soil, which is not the case in a conventional landfill site.

47.346 acres of land has been allotted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for a landfill site in Tehkhand area near Okhla, out of which 32.346 acres will be used to set up an engineering landfill site, the work of which is expected by April 2023 to be accomplished, reads the budget speech.

As per the speech, the existing three landfill sites in Delhi are spread over a total area of 202 acres.

In the budget, the commissioner also said that CCTV cameras have been installed at 570 school locations, and proposals have been sent to other schools.

The budget also mentioned that from July 15, a uniform property tax policy came into force for areas under the jurisdiction of the MCD, when the three corporations - NDMC, SDMC and EDMC - were merged into a single civic body. . May 2022.

The property tax collected in 2021-22 for the three corporations was ₹2,037.60 crore. In 2022-23, the collection of the integrated MCD till November 15 stood at Rs 1,387.37 crore, compared to Rs 1,227.02 crore for the same period last year. Thus this year, for this period, the MCD has collected ₹160.35 crore, compared to last year's figure, according to the speech.

It has been said in the budget that in view of the G20 meetings, there is a plan to buy 1.5 lakh plants and pots.

The AAP had won 134 of the 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections earlier this month. The BJP, which ruled the civic body for three consecutive terms, came second by winning 104 wards.

AAP will organize a one-day training session for its newly elected councilors on Wednesday (December 14). The party will acquaint them with the funds at their disposal and the protocols they need to follow, news agency PTI reported.
