Curb on Covid is not necessary...: Goa CM amid ongoing festive season

 



No restrictions are necessary either. Goa CM Pramod Sawant said that if needed, we can take a decision in the first week of January.

The Goa government has announced that it will not impose any Covid-related restrictions at least till the first week of January due to the ongoing festive season in the state.

Keeping this in mind, the Chief Minister of the state Pramod Sawant has said, "At present, the festival season is going on in Goa, so there will be no restriction on any kind of activity till January. No restriction is also necessary. Need If required, we can take a decision in the first week of January."

Sawant chaired a review meeting with the state health minister and other health officials in which it was decided that the present situation does not press for restrictions in the state.

“We met to review the Covid preparedness in the state. We also had a conference (call) with the Union Health Minister and the message is that we should be cautious. Addressing the media persons after the high-level meeting, the Chief Minister said that on December 27, we will conduct a mock drill to check the preparedness of the hospital - from availability of oxygen to PPE kits etc.

However, he informed that screening of passengers is being done as per the advice of the Centre. “Currently at Goa airport, 2% of international passengers are being screened and tested for genome sequencing. We already have genome sequencing facilities at Asino and GMC. All the infrastructure is there. We are ready and if by chance cases start increasing tomorrow, we will be ready."

The festival of Christmas was celebrated with enthusiasm in the state on Sunday.

In Goa, which has about 30% of the Christian population, locals and tourists welcomed the festival with prayers and midnight mass and celebrated all night long on beaches and other prominent places in the coastal state. The festivities began at around 11 pm on Saturday in various churches and cathedrals and continued till the wee hours of Sunday. At midnight, parishioners dressed in ceremonial dress mark the birth of the Lord Jesus. A large number of tourists from India and abroad visit the beach state for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
