Canada provincial nominations: 4 territories that issued invitations this week

Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island issued ITAs this week

Four Canadian provinces this week issued invitations to apply through their Provincial Nomination Program (PNP). These territories include Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island.

Apart from Quebec and Nunavut, most Canadian provinces and territories operate their own PNPs. Though these are not exactly permanent habitats, it is the first step towards the same.

Here's everything you need to know about the latest PNP draw:

Ontario: The region issued 936 letters of interest on December 19 to candidates who have work experience in targeted technology occupations. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) targets candidates who are already in the Express Entry pool with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of 484-490.

British Columbia: A total of 153 invitations to apply were issued by British Columbia to candidates on December 20. Only the candidates belonging to the Skilled Worker and International Graduates category and Express Entry were invited.

Candidates need a minimum SIRS score of 90. SIRS works like the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), but is only used for PNPs in British Columbia.

Saskatchewan: On December 21, the province invited 153 candidates under the Express Entry stream and 315 candidates under the occupations-in-demand stream.

Prince Edward Island: On December 15, Prince Edward Island invited 127 candidates through the PEI PNP's Labor and Express Entry streams. Seven candidates were also invited through the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur with a minimum point threshold of 62. This brings the total number of candidates invited by the province so far in 2022 to 1,854.

Express Entry candidates who wish to be enrolled by PEI must submit a separate Expression of Interest (EOI) to PEI PNP.

PNP has 105,000 PR admissions per year. It started in 1998 and since then there has been a steady increase in the annual number of PNP admissions. Both the federal and provincial governments consider it an effective tool for promoting economic development outside urban centres.
