Earlier, on December 5, an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 hit Changlang region of Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, on December 8, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Indonesia's main island of Java. The earthquake occurred at 07:50 am local time (0050 GMT) about 15 kilometers from the city of Cianjur, which was the epicenter of November's devastating earthquake. No immediate damage was reported in Cianjur or Sukabumi, the nearest town to the epicentre.

Last month, a mild 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Cianjur, triggering landslides and collapsing buildings, killing at least 334 people, injuring thousands, and leaving thousands homeless.

The Sinajur earthquake on 21 November was the deadliest in the archipelago nation since the 2018 quake and the resulting tsunami killed more than 4,000 people on the island of Sulawesi.

Indonesia experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity due to its position on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where tectonic plates collide.
